A Special Place...

As we enter the holidays and wedding season starts to slow, I wanted to take the opportunity to recap on a wedding that holds a special place in my heart. The wedding of Irini and Aaron was the first wedding I worked on after starting KL Wedding Designs LLC. Both Irini and Aaron lived in New York city but, it turned out that Irini's parents lived just down the street from me. They had already completed a lot of the planning but brought me on to help the smaller details come together and to make sure that everything ran smoothly on their wedding day.

To honor Irini's Egyptian heritage, Irini and Aaron were married in a Coptic Ceremony at the magnificent Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Columbus Ohio. The ceremony lasted about an hour and included some wonderful traditions including the placing of a crown and robe on Aaron to mark him as the king of the household. The bridesmaids all wore a brilliant red floor length gown and Irini was stunning in her Henry Roth strapless, A-line gown with pick ups in the front and permanent bustle in the back.

After the ceremony, Irini and Aaron ran through a shower of rose petals (and a few raindrops) to a limo waiting to take them to the Westin Great Southern Hotel in downtown Columbus.

The Ballroom was decorated beautifully in alternating tall and short arrangements of a variety of flowers in shades of pink. After guests enjoyed a short cocktail reception and delicious dinner, Irini surprised her guests with a performance by a belly dancer to kick off the reception. The entire crowd got into it and Irini even pulled out a couple of moves of her own.

To top off the night, we decorated their room with candles and rose petals along with some champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. Michael Barber of Journal Weddings was there to capture their surprise when they opened the door to their bridal suite.

The end of the wedding weekend was marked with a Brunch on Sunday morning. A great money saver - we used the flower arrangements from then night before for the brunch and then let guests take them home to remember their wonderful weekend spent in downtown Columbus.

I had such a wonderful time working with Aaron, Irini, their parents and their wedding party during this time. The vendors that all worked together on this wedding were also great and the staff at The Westin Great Southern Hotel couldn't have been more accommodating. I could not have asked for better people to work with on my first wedding as an independent coordinator.
